The modern world is full of invisible toxins. We can't escape them but we can reduce our exposure to them with some simple practices. The following suggestions will help you get started with making changes and bringing awareness to your exposure.

  • Reduce plastics - Plastics are made with chemicals like PVC and BPA that leach into our foods and drinks. Notice next time you're in the grocery store how many items are in plastic containers, like yogurt, cream cheese, juices and water. An easy way to reduce plastic in your home is to replace plastic containers with glass. Use stainless steel water bottles instead. Try to avoid produce wrapped in plastic and purchase loose ones instead.
  • Improve your air quality - We're surrounded by airborne particles and toxins. Open your windows to help with air circulation and allow toxins to flow out and fresh air to flow in. Plants are the best way to naturally clean indoor air plus they'll beautify your space. Avoid scented candles, plugins and air sprays. These contain chemicals that are absorbed through your skin and which can stress your liver.
  • Detox your skincare - Our skin is the largest organ and serves as a protective barrier from the outside world. Everything we put on our skin is absorbed into the body. The personal care products are mostly unregulated in the US so we need to be vigilant about the products we use. Experiment with organic products when you can afford it. Unfortunately, anything organic comes with a larger price tag. I've been slowly replacing my skincare products with those from LivingLibations.com. Their products feel clean and pure on my skin, plus they smell natural.

Trying to detoxify your world can sound like a huge project. Pace yourself. Take steps that are easy and simple then continue to build upon them.

What's one easy thing you can do now to reduce toxins in your living space?
