Are you thinking about getting back into yoga—or giving it a go for the first time? That’s wonderful! Let me tell you something right off the bat: it doesn’t matter how long it’s been or if you’re brand new to this. What matters is that you’re here, ready to take a little time for you.

Let me walk you through a few simple ways to ease back into yoga—or get started without feeling overwhelmed. Think of this as advice from one woman to another, shared with love and a little wisdom.

Begin Where You Are

No need to overthink this. You don’t have to be flexible or strong to start yoga. You just need to show up for yourself. Your mat doesn’t care if you haven’t touched your toes in years or if you’re not sure what a downward dog is. Yoga is about meeting yourself, exactly as you are, with no judgment.

Set Kind Intentions

Skip the big goals like “I’ll practice every day for an hour!” (Let’s be real—life happens.) Instead, set intentions that feel good, like:

  • I want to feel a little more at ease in my body.
  • I’d like to carve out a moment of calm today.
  • I’m here to move and breathe, nothing more.

Gentle intentions make it easier to show up without pressure.

Pick the Right Practice for Now

There are so many ways to practice yoga, and you don’t have to jump into anything too intense. Start with something gentle—hatha yoga, restorative yoga, or yin yoga. These slower styles help you ease into movement, stretch out, and feel good without overdoing it. Try my Gentle Yoga class for starters!

Create a Cozy Space

You don’t need a fancy yoga studio to practice. A corner of your living room or bedroom will do just fine. Roll out a mat, grab a blanket or a couple of pillows, and maybe light a candle if you’re feeling fancy. Make it your little haven—a place where you can just be.

Listen to Your Body

This is your golden rule: listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, adjust it, skip it, or take a break. Yoga is about feeling good, not forcing your way into a pose. And if you need to sit on your mat and just breathe for a bit, that’s yoga too.

Start Small

You don’t need to jump into a 60-minute class right away. Start with 10 or 15 minutes a day. Short and sweet is perfectly fine. The most important thing is consistency—showing up, even if it’s just for a little while. Check out my short videos - they’re free!

Find the Right Guide

If you’re trying online classes, look for a teacher who feels like a good fit—someone who explains things clearly and has a calming, approachable vibe. You deserve a guide who makes you feel comfortable, supported, and inspired. Reach out if you’re interested in 1:1 personalized sessions.

Be Patient and Kind With Yourself

Yoga is a practice, not a performance. Some days you’ll feel amazing; other days, you’ll feel stiff or uncoordinated. That’s perfectly normal. Be patient. Be kind. Celebrate showing up, because that’s the hardest part.

Celebrate the Small Wins

Every little thing counts. Maybe you made it to your mat today. Maybe you tried a pose that felt good or took five deep breaths that left you feeling calm. Those are victories, my friend, and they’re worth celebrating.

Enjoy the Process

Yoga is about the journey, not the destination. It’s not about nailing poses or getting it “right.” It’s about moving, breathing, and reconnecting with yourself. Let it be an experience you enjoy, not another thing on your to-do list.

So, take that first step—unroll your mat, find a quiet corner, and just start. You don’t need to have it all figured out; you just need to begin.

You’re doing something beautiful for yourself, and that’s worth honoring. Namaste, dear one. Let’s do this together.
