Perimenopause vs Menopause - What’s the difference?
There are three phases to menopause that isn't readily talked about and so important for women to know. So I'm arming you with some knowledge to take in:
💥Perimenopause - Also referred to as menopause transition that generally occurs in your late 40s, but it can happen earlier as in my case. You may experience hormonal fluctuations causing hot flashes, vaginal dryness, increased menstrual bleeding, weight gain, depression and other symptoms. Every woman’s experience is different. Pay attention to this phase as it’s the most important time to make self-care a priority if it isn’t already. See your doctor and ask questions especially when what you the doc says doesn’t align with what you’re experiencing.
💥Menopause - You haven’t have your period in 12 months (This is the general benchmark although some women have been known to have their period after 12 months without out.)
💥Post Menopause - You’re no longer menstruating, ovulation ceases and estrogen levels drop. You may continue to experience symptoms of hormonal imbalance but they could be less dramatic compared to the perimenopause stage.
Knowledge is power and I’m here to share what I’ve learned from my own early menopause. Only you know what you’re experiencing so be your own advocate on this journey and ask questions. You don’t have to go this alone. Share your experience in a supportive community.
